Okay, started this out. I think I got the height Dizzy fell in GGXX wrong, though. Feel free to correct it. Yar Kramer 22:06, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I wouldn't exactly interpret surviving the fall from the Mayship as "apparent immortality". Certainly very few (no?) humans could do it, but Dizzy is half-Gear, so maybe she's just more resilient to physical shock than "pure" humans. In addition, we don't know if maybe Necro or Undine (or both) did something to lessen the impact because, after falling, she wasn't conscious until after defeating Faust. -RTL 14 May 2005 (GMT)
Y'know, to be honest, I really only referred to that as "immortality" because I couldn't think of a better way to put it than that. I'll fix it. Yar Kramer 07:22, 14 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Yar, the article is very good. -RTL 22 May 2005 (GMT)

Just a note, some links in other articles already exist to blank character pages. However, some of these links go to "Character Name (Video Game Character)" rather then "Character Name (Guilty Gear)," might want to keep that in mind. I already make a redirect at "Dizzy (video game character)." And remember, if a character already has a unique enough name, then there's no reason to slap on "(Guilty Gear)" on the article name. --Paul Soth 18:34, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, all right. Thanks for the tip. Yar Kramer 02:13, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

In keeping with the format of the other character articles, could someone do a summary of Dizzy's gameplay? I'm not very familiar with her; just that her "fish" and bolt summons are used for her pressure game, and doing TK bubble is very important because the bubble will float the opponent and disallows teching. Oh yeah, and her ice spike FRC loops. -RTL 22 May 2005 (GMT)

Sure thing. I'm on it. Digital Watches 22:56, 22 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, thanks! -RTL 10 June 2005 (UTC)

The Parent Argument

[edit]

Is it really necessary to have that whole paragraph on why it's still possible that Sol is Dizzy's father? The only thing stated thus far is that Dizzy's mother is Justice. There's not even any solid, canon evidence whatsoever that she wasn't born of a character that is never played or even MENTIONED in any material thus far. Therefore anything that says otherwise is purely fan speculation, and shouldn't be put in the article until it's been officially stated.

True. Removing now. --Yar Kramer 23:41, 14 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I was thinking that until we get a canon source saying otherwise, all speculation as to the father be kept on the talk page, as this makes it a lot less confusing to those not familiar with the character.
... Good idea. --Yar Kramer 19:40, 11 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Also, since Sol (Frederick) is a Gear this makes it a lot less likely since Dizzy's human DNA would suggest the father to be such. It is possible, however, that Dizzy was concieved via a reserve of Frederick's DNA prior to the Gear transformation. Also we don't know the actual specifics of Gear transformation, and those like Sol and Testament could very well still have their original human genetic makeup intact as opposed to purely concieved gears like Justice. Both theories are pretty high up in the air, though.
Right now, aside from Sol's heavily open-to-interpretation words to her in GGXX, the closest possible candidate we have now is Kliff Undersn, based on her Arcade mode victory message ("Please, don't die.... You look just like my father.") which could just be a reference to her pre-GGX foster father. Hell, knowing the kind of crazy sci-fi stuff possible within the GG universe her human parent might not even be a male! – Kuuenbu 04:45, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, I wouldn't go that far. Occam's Razor, like I said in the Justice talk page, and all that. Kliff aside, we can probably rule out ... uh, a whole lot of the male cast, actually, on the grounds of either "they'd probably have made it more obvious" (Chipp, Johnny, Venom, just to name a few), or "it's hilariously impossible" (Bridget, Potemkin). Beyond that ... yeah. All we can say for certain is that we don't know who it is. It could even be some NPC we've never even seen before. --Yar Kramer 06:19, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

who ever put that sentence in the wikipedia, was totally misleading the readers though.

"you look just like my father" please notice that Dizzy has hever met her real parents. the fater here just simplely referring to the old couple who adopted her before she was exiled to the forest.

Uh, it isn't the actual article. This is the talk page. --Yar Kramer 06:16, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

yes that's because the original sentence in the article page is already deleted

And it was removed long before you made the comment. Why does it even need to be mentioned here? --Yar Kramer 17:36, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I for one support that it is Frederick (Sol) that is Dizzy's Father. You understand that Frederick is the prototype Gear, and one of the researchers involved in the Gear Project (along with That Man and Justice before she became a Gear), meaning he was a Gear before Justice was (Justice was originally human, which is why she retained her intelligence and free will.) It is entirely possible that Dizzy was concieved before Justice became a gear, and thus she would have inherited her Gear genes from Frederick and human genes from Justice. That's my theory at least. --Interrorgation2 07:08, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But then you'd have to be contesting that somehow, Justice was pregnant for at the very least a couple of years (I forget how long it is between Justice becoming a gear and Dizzy being born, but it's a matter of years) and more likely, before Sol/Frederick left (Over a hundred years.) Somehow, I think the gestation period would be a bit shorter. --Digital Watches
Well, yeah, you have a point...It was just my theory is all. Then it would play into Justice's final words, with the 'three of us' she refers to being Justice, Frederick, and Dizzy. But, it's still more likely that was Justice, Frederick, and That Man that she refers to. Speaking of, could it even be considered that That Man could be her father? I'm doubting this because of his 'there was a daughter' or likeness of that comment, but it's still something possible. Of course we don't even know if he's human. --Interrorgation2
It's not JUST a "matter of years", DW. The Crusades lasted about a hundred years, while Justice was a Gear the whole time, and Dizzy is chronologically three. (Then there's the fact that, as such, Dizzy was apparently born while Justice was still sealed away for five years prior to the "less than a year" period between GG and GGX. My pet theory about that, as I've mentioned elsewhere, is that Dizzy hatched from an egg, but a century is still a mean gestation period, and anyway there's no evidence for it whatsoever.). --Yar Kramer 19:26, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This is all senseless specualtion. The talkpage is intended for the discussion of the article and its content. Please take this to a forum. -ZeroTalk 19:48, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, the entire purpose, which you just stated, but in different words, of a talk page, is to house things that aren't to be made part of the article until the issue is resolved among the writers. If you didn't allow speculation on a talk page, then it would end up in the article, which, I'm sure, no one wants. Your concern is appreciated, but I believe the talk page is being used correctly. Digital Watches 05:26, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. -ZeroTalk 08:49, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Just a thought that I had, could it be that Justice is both the mother and father of Dizzy? Neo Guyver 14:33, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, you run into the exact same problem: she's half-human and half-Gear. If "both" of her parents are Gear(s), where did the human half come from? —Yar Kramer 01:11, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This probably doesn't help the "speculation" aspect, but has anyone considered Dizzy's second ending in Guilty Gear XX? (Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4st6xUh_XY&feature=related) In it, Dizzy freaks out after her second fight with I-No, and goes unconscious after losing control of her gear powers. She screams "somebody help me!", after which her image fades out, and an image briefly flashes in of a standing figure silhouetted before a blindingly bright light. This figure, based on his pose, hair, clothes, and rectangular sword, is unmistakably Sol Badguy. The screen fades to black, a few seconds pass, and Dizzy wakes up crying, believing she had a dream. April says, "It must have been a dream about your mother. Oh wait! Maybe it was a dream about your father, huh?" Like I said, this is speculation, but it does provide another piece of evidence in favor of Sol (in fact, Frederick) being Dizzy's father. The other possibility is that there are multiple people involved in the production of the Guilty Gear games, many games in fact, and with possible translation errors even "canon" sources have to be taken with a grain of salt. Spelling correction across four articles

[edit]

Er ... *eyes this, Zato-1, Zappa (Guilty Gear), and Testament (Guilty Gear)* ... I suck at spelling "possess", don't I? ^^; --Yar Kramer 01:20, 19 July 2005 (UTC) cigliutti is it at all postable she comes from a differnet time line like trucks from dragonballz[reply]

Trigun?

[edit]

Um ... okay, I wonder if throwing in a reference to Trigun is really necessary here. I mean, yeah, Dizzy does kinda vaguely sort of resemble that, though I don't think it's very similar, but is that section entirely relevant to this article on the whole? On top of that, it seems to be a bit of an original research and unverifiable thing to me .... --Yar Kramer 20:21, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-Protection?

[edit]

It seems like a lot of people are still posting speculation as to Dizzy's father, even though we've made it very clear that it shouldn't be done. I think that at this point, we should consider it vandalism if it happens again. It also seems like it's a bunch of IPs/anonymous users, who would be incapable of watching the page for changes. Perhaps it would be warranted to file for semi-protection of this article, as it may stop this seemingly endless revert war. The bracket thing there is nice, but I don't think it'll stop anyone who would've put something there in the first place. --Digital Watches 22:36, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Dizzy.gif

[edit]

Image:Dizzy.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Article for Dizzy?

[edit]

I think Dizzy deserves her own article on Wikipedia, considering she's a popular character.

We could use her Wikia article as a jumpstart, though not copying and pasting from it. https://guilty-gear.fandom.com/wiki/Dizzy

@Yar Kramer: Can you create an article for Dizzy? Because if I was the one to do it, it'd probably get rejected.

I can take this one. @Kung Fu Man: I'm impressed with how many high-quality characters articles you have been able to produce! QuicoleJR (talk) 20:06, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@QuicoleJR, just a reminder ping about this, if you wanted it to count for the backlog drive. -- asilvering (talk) 02:49, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I completely forgot about it. I should have my review ready in a day or two. QuicoleJR (talk) 14:00, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kung Fu Man: The first review of the article is done, and I did not find many issues. Waiting on the spotcheck until one of these comments is addressed.
  • Dizzy has been well received since her release, praise for both her design but also her character as portrayed in her gameplay. The grammar here is wrong. Also, I'm not sure what the second part means.
  • Fixed, cut it down to be simpler.
  • I personally don't think that the lead should include opinions from the Reception section that are not held by more than one person. However, I could potentially see an argument for keeping the study in the lead.
  • I tweaked the study mention to make it clear it was one study, but I do think singular views can work in articles like this.
  • Dizzy has been a playable character in all subsequent Guilty Gear games, with the exception of Guilty Gear 2 and Guilty Gear Strive. Why was she not in those two? Is there a story reason?
  • Nothing really specific regarding Strive, with Guilty Gear 2 it was a copyright issue but there's nothing I can cite that states that specifically regarding Dizzy, so it's better just left untouched (most of the Guilty Gear roster was left out of 2 for the same reason)
  • Not strictly required to meet the criteria, but this section could do with some changes to comply with WP:NONENG. There are several Japanese news sources that could be replaced with English ones that serve the same purpose. This would also make it much easier for me to perform the spotcheck.
  • I've used what english sources I could there, most of the sources are simply confirming a character's presence in a Japanese title and should work fine in google translate to confirm that statement. As for the books, there's no English equivalent for most of them.
  • This character seems to have had a lot of merchandise, so I'm not sure if including figures referenced only to a database is needed. I would not object to this if there was less RS-covered merch, but there is so much that I think the section would be fine without it. I am open to an argument for keeping it, though.
  • I feel it's important to show the various merch in this case, namely that each appearance got its own figure even, as it helps illustrate the long-term visibility of a character especially a fighting game character, where many are lucky to even get a figure if any at all.
  • Does Gavin Jasper really deserve his own paragraph? I feel like it could be merged with the paragraph above or below it.
  • Jasper's statements cover her role in the story and examinations of it, while the preceding paragraph is more about her design and various elements of it. The third paragraph is more criticism, but also covering the negative connotations in that author's view regarding her character and her designated age, so it can't be merged there either.
QuicoleJR (talk) 17:26, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@QuicoleJR Hit up everything I could, lemme know if I missed anything or if there's more to fix!
@Kung Fu Man: With the comments about Japanese sources above, I was more referring to the Merchandise section. For example, Siliconera could be used for the whiskey, and even adds the extra context of what type of whiskey it is. Like I said, not strictly required, just something to think about. I will make another pass over the article soon. QuicoleJR (talk) 18:58, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@QuicoleJR, any further progress? Ideally, this review should be wrapped up pretty soon. —Ganesha811 (talk) 15:52, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I've been really busy lately. Should hopefully finish this in a day or two. QuicoleJR (talk) 15:53, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kung Fu Man: Alright, I've been looking through the article, and here is my second pass:
  • and bangs that frame her face. I might just be dumb, but what does “frame her face” mean?
  • It's when the hair comes down the sides of the face, sometimes cupping the chin as well. Think like a picture frame. Common figure of speech.
  • When developing Guilty Gear X, series creator Daisuke Ishiwatari decided early on that the game's final boss would be female to continue a trend from the previous game. The previous game was the first game in the series. I am not sure I would call that a trend.
  • Reworded as he was calling it a trend here
  • he wanted to her happy and smiling "for once", What?
  • Added missing word.
  • One of her strongest attacks, "Imperial Ray", is an attack shared with Justice. Shared how?
  • Removed bit about Justice.
  • The Nendoroid source could be switched out with an English equivalent per NOTENG, like with the whiskey source. Not strictly required, but it would be a good idea.
  • Fixed.
  • I feel like Ciolek’s review is given too much space, especially since it isn't even primarily about Dizzy, and refers to “some fans” in its wording. I understand keeping the source in the article, but I think that the “homoerotic subtext” part should be cut, since it isn't even that heavily focused on Dizzy.
  • Cut that bit and the some fans bit, kept it simple.
  • I went through some of the sources, and this article passes the spot-check.

@Kung Fu Man: That sounds good. I looked it over several times, and I only found a couple of issues to fix.
  • One key challenge they focused on was designing her was creating a character The grammar here is all wrong.
  • Fixed.
  • A side story was additionally included, where the main timeline Dizzy attempts to deliver a letter to Testament. Is Testament in the main or alternate timeline here? Also, why does it specify that Dizzy ‘’attempted’’ to deliver the letter? Did she fail?
  • Clarified.
  • At the same time, he lamented how while she was portrayed as strong, she was constantly held back due to her pacifism and plot contrivance. This article was written years after the other one, so “at the same time” is incorrect.
  • Fixed the wording. The two articles are nestled for their shared thoughts so I wanted to avoid "in another article" for the worder, so "However" should hopefully suffice.
By the way, I'm sorry that this review has taken so long. I was busier than I anticipated these last few weeks. QuicoleJR (talk) 22:18, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Kung Fu Man: I reviewed the article again, and I only found one more comment.
  • but few defensive options outside of her high mobility, What do you mean by mobility? Movement speed? Jump height? Something else entirely?
This review should be almost done now. Sorry that this took so long. QuicoleJR (talk) 00:10, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@QuicoleJR Exactly the way the devs worded it in regards to her, she has high mobility. I feel going more in depth would just result in going trivial, most folks can visualize what that means I reckon.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 00:15, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is fair. I will make another pass over the article, and give you my thoughts after that. QuicoleJR (talk) 00:17, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@QuicoleJR For a controversial subject I could understand it needing another pass but this is getting a bit excessive, especially when you're clearly doing other things on the site and I'm freeing up my time to hope you get this done.
